About the role
This role, reporting directly to the Environmental Consultancy Team Manager, provides an excellent opportunity to join a team of full-time consultants and part-time associates working across the UK. You’ll be delivering first-class consultative services to clients in both the private and public sectors.
Your responsibilities will include planned visits to a variety of commercial properties, often in collaboration with client Facilities or Building Managers. This allows you to engage directly with clients, offering expert advice and guidance on water hygiene issues.
The role offers a great balance, with a mix of client site visits and time working from home for research and report writing, ensuring you can make a meaningful impact both in the field and behind the scenes.
What you’ll be getting up to
- Conduct Comprehensive Legionella Risk Assessments
- Perform detailed risk assessments for domestic hot and cold-water systems, ensuring compliance with the latest standards and guidance.
- Assess the design, condition and usage of water systems to identify potential risks.
- Develop tailored recommendations to mitigate risks and enhance system safety.
- Carry out audits of evaporative cooling systems, reviewing maintenance practices and operational records.
- Draft Detailed Technical Reports.
- Prepare high-quality, technical reports summarizing findings from site visits and assessments.
- Ensure all reports meet industry standards and are completed within agreed-upon timeframes.
- Utilise client management systems for seamless report uploads and efficient communication.
- Collaborate with clients to provide clear, actionable insights and follow-up recommendations.
- Collect and Analyse Microbiological Samples.
- Collect water samples during site visits, adhering to strict protocols to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Coordinate with our trusted partner laboratory for timely analysis of samples.
- Interpret laboratory results to identify trends or issues, integrating findings into client reports.
- Advise on corrective actions based on sample results, promoting proactive water hygiene management.
- Provide Expert Advice and Guidance.
- Serve as a trusted advisor on all aspects of water hygiene and Legionella control.
- Deliver practical recommendations for system improvements and compliance with regulations.
- Conduct on-site training or awareness sessions for client teams when needed.
- Stay informed about industry developments and legislative changes to keep clients ahead of compliance requirements.
- Client Management: Build and maintain strong client relationships, addressing concerns and ensuring satisfaction.
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on relevant legislation (COSHH, HSE) and ensure all practices meet legal standards.
- Training: Provide on-site training and guidance on safe water system operation and Legionella control and where qualified deliver Legionella Awareness training to clients.
- Risk Mitigation: Recommend control measures and system modifications for Legionella prevention.
- Incident Management: Investigate Legionella outbreaks and implement actions to prevent recurrence.
- Health & Safety: Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations, particularly in high-risk environments.
- Technical Expertise: Apply in-depth knowledge of water treatment and Legionella risk controls.
- Travel Flexibility: Willingness to travel to various sites for scheduled visits and emergencies.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of assessments, audits, and actions taken for compliance.

In order to excel in this role you need…
Essential
- Solid experience of undertaking legionella risk assessments of domestic water systems / evaporative cooling systems including drawing schematic diagrams
- Good understanding of the Legislation/Guidance surrounding the control of legionella bacteria
- A Science/Engineering degree or similar relevant qualifications
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Good knowledge of IT systems i.e. Microsoft Office
Desired
- Previous experience of working for a similar consultancy
- 5 years industry experience
- Experience in risk assessing and auditing evaporative cooling systems
- Membership of The Water Management Society
- Previous experience using AutoCAD/Visio
- Experience of completing Indoor Air Quality Audits
